Pirates 1:6 scale
There's only the one pirate so far, but I'll make more eventually. This pirate's wardrobe was inspired by a commission request for a burgundy shirt and black leather vest. I bought special leather needles for my machine to sew the "leather" (actually vinyl), but all they did was ruin the thread. (It unravelled every few stitches.) I wound up going back to my regular all purpose needles instead.
The shirt is from the same pattern I created for the Scottish Highlander, and is based on the shirts I see at every Rennasiance Faire I attend. It's made from burgundy cotton fabric out of the quilting section.
The laces are black elastic cord. I don't have grommets that small, so I pulled the cord through the shirt fabric with a needle, crisscrossing the thread like I was lacing my shoes, then cutting it. I strung a black bead on each end of the cord before I knotted the ends to add a little detail.
The model is a Power Team action figure. I can't praise these figures enough. Great articulation and a wide variety of head sculpts. If you haven't already, go to KB Toys or Big Lots and check them out. I've picked up the accessories (sword, stack and box of gold coins, etc.) from various doll shows and trades.
