Doctor Who The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann)
I finally got my best friend hooked on Doctor Who, and since Paul McGann is her favorite Doctor, I made this as one of her Christmas presents. The coat is green velvet with green buttons. There is a button on either side of the slit in the back of the coat as well as two rows of buttons on the coat front. The lapels and trim along the cuffs on the sleeves are both of green satin. I included coat pockets when I made this pattern. Until I make a sonic screwdriver, this prop from Mattel's Dr. Ken and Tommy set will do.
I used Mattel's Blaine doll, rerooted it with all new hair, then used gel to style the new hair. The pin in his cravat is made from the tip of a straight pin, with a yellow bead glued to it. The vest buttons are tortoise shell beads.
Because Debbie enjoyed "The Year of Intelligent Tigers" so much, I posed her doll with a violin taken from a Mattel accessory pack. (The same pack includes a flute and a trumpet.) Both the violin and the bow have strings.
Eighth Doctor TARDIS crews from BBC Books
The 8th Doctor, Fitz Kreiner, and Sam Jones in my back yard's equivalent of a quarry...er, alien world. Fitz is a Shaving Fun Ken, I believe, wearing a shirt made by Debbie's grandmother a few decades back, and part of a vintage outfit Debbie picked up cheap. Fitz will get his coat back once I redo the seams on the sleeves so it will fit him. Until then, Sam (one of the Mary Kate or Ashley dolls from Mattel) will borrow it.
The 8th Doctor, Fitz Kreiner, and Anji - different world, same quarry. Anji is an ice skater Barbie with her hair taken out of its bun style. Her top is one of the separates available from Fashion Boulevard. I tried to use forced perspective to make the Dapol TARDIS in the background look in scale with the dolls.
