About the play
Six performances only of the revival of this 1998 Frontera@Hyde Park Theatre hit starring Ken Webster. Victor, the loser inhabiting Daniel MacIvor's dark and furiously funny one-man show, takes you on a whirlwind tour of the offices, circus tents, supermarkets, Ramada Inns, sewers, dreams, and houses that compose the hallucinatory landscape of his life. This cooperative production between STC and Frontera marked the transition into Ken Webster's new role as producing artistic director of Hyde Park Theatre.
What the critics said . . .
"Ken Webster brings the house down, starting with the fourth wall . . . By animating invisible characters through hilarious stories, Daniel MacIvor begins construction next door to Conor McPherson. Webster brings the house down, then he builds new theatre for the audience. Peck Phillips keeps the lines plumb and takes care of all the angles; Ken Webster is the demolition crew and the Master Builder. To enjoy a master at work, House at the Hyde Park Theatre would make a good visit."
Austin Chronicle (entire review)
"With an in-your-face brashness and ingenuous twists of humor, Ken Webster turns in a convincing performance in Daniel Macivor's "House" as Victor, a darkly humorous man whose innermost reflections elicit roaring laughter one moment and stunned silence the next. Webster knows how to grab an audience and hold them until right before they burst. . . .
"House" is a brilliantly crafted, imaginative work that Webster takes to the edge of perfection in his portrayal."
