Twins,
Acrylic on
canvas, 24"W x 36"H
Having been confined to a wheelchair or bed for an extended time, Rick was losing muscle mass. In October 1996, he started physical therapy with Lynn, his "PT from hell". She would become his great personal friend, and remains one of mine to this day.
After numerous CT scans and MRI's failed to reveal why Rick was unable to walk, he was referred to a neurologist. He took one look at the list of Rick's medications and identified an anti-psychotic drug as the cause. "You shouldn't take that for longer than eight weeks at a time." Rick had been on the drug for nine months. Within weeks of discontinuing the drug, his condition improved. He also found a new psychiatrist.
Twins was completed in May 1997. Also known as Headless Women, Rick kept the painting at home. He did complete and deliver several pieces to the gallery including: Lady in Blue (also a headless woman), which was purchased in 1999; Dive In, which was sold in April 1998; and Yes/No, a vase which sold in May 1997.
