Tulips in a Cup was started on August 8th and completed on August 10, 1999.
From Rick's journal of August 9, 1999:
"8 pills - new protease inhibitor - twice a day! Sucks. Get rid of pills and then this. I can't win. Worked on tulip picture. Almost done."
Rick had stopped all antivirals for a month in order to flush out his system and so they would not interfere with his starting insulin to regulate his diabetes. His new three-drug combo would contain the newest drug in each of three categories of antivirals. They were also a boatload of pills.
