The
Rumor, Acrylic & plaster on canvas, 48"W
x 30"H, (nfs)
The Rumor was also completed in the spring of 1991. Rick had the painting in the gallery briefly, but removed it because he could not bear to sell it. He just loved these two women who were gossiping over their bottle of wine. Of all the pieces Rick created, this was his personal favorite.
The Rumor was exhibited at The Shivers Cancer Center in Austin, TX for the month of November, 1995 as part of the center's Healing Arts Program.
The woman on the left appears in another of Rick's paintings. She is the subject of the 1994 acrylic on canvas piece, Gibson Girl.
Grandma's Flowers, Acrylic & plaster on
canvas, 24"W x 36"H, 1991
This 1991 piece was also one of Rick's personal favorites. It makes use of plaster to give dimension. In this painting he also started using a style wherein a lifelike image was cut into sections, then the sections were put back slightly out of alignment. In Grandma's Flowers, the background color of each section is a slightly different shade than the adjacent section and is moved slightly out of alignment. This painting was titled in honor of Rick's maternal grandmother, Louella Scharff, an avid gardener. He would also title another painting after her, the 1995 acrylic on paper, Louella.
Grandma's Flowers was also exhibited at The Shivers Cancer Center in Austin, TX for the month of November, 1995 as part of the Center's Healing Arts Program.
It was Rick's wish that, upon his death, Grandma's Flowers be given to his mother.
