![]() The DOG in the early times |
Hair of the Dog was formed in 1991 by Odai Johnson, Wes Pascoe, and Neville Stewart. We originally just intended to have a straight ahead Irish band, but a few things happened along the way. The first of these was David Perales. | One Pub Town

The DOG would like to pay
tribute to our primary influence over the years. |
The "doggy boys" at this point were playing folk music. David brought with him his classical and jazz background, and refused to be referred to as a "fiddler" rather than a violinist. (He paid too much for the lessons, he said.) | The band made its debut at the 1991 North Texas Irish Festival in Dallas. The DOG brought crowds to standing ovations after running a simple set of reels into the Overture from the Barber of Seville in a nine minute medley they call My Wild Irish Rossini. |
In 1993, the Lads managed to get themselves into a recording studio, and with the lubrication of several cases of Guinness, made their first recording: Bark of the Covenant. |
Recorded in 1992, and newly reissued, "Bark" contains many of the DOG's most beloved melodies, including: Brigham's 14 (Take Her In Your Arms); Breathalyzed, Bishop and the Choirboy, and other irreverent songs; My Wild Irish Rossini; and a SHOWDOWN between Georges Bizet and Aaron Copeland |

| Over the next couple of years, the DOG became a regional hit, playing all over the Southwest, never quite sobering up long enough to tour, and preferring to do most gigs in an area that didn't require too long a drive home to Austin. | ![]() |
Odai and Wes now began to come up with ideas for original songs. Most involved drinking as the primary theme. The DOG had degenerated to a common pub band. (Some would say extremely common.) |
