Lawrence Person's Science Fiction Criticism and Reviews
Over the years, I've cranked out a fair number of citical articles
and book reviews, both in
Nova Express and elsewhere.
Articles
- "Notes
Toward a Postcyberpunk Manifesto"
is possibly my most famous critical piece. It's been translated into
Polish, Portugease, Italian, possibly Japanese. (The site I spotted it on is no longer up, so who knows?)
- The
Splatterpunks: The Young Turks at Horror's Cutting Edge was a
very early article I did,
focusing on a movement that, despite a very self-limiting name,
produced some of the most interesting horror of the late 1980s.
Since then the horror market died (again), clawed its way up through
the fresh grave dirt and staggered back into unnatural life (again),
and Poppy Z. Brite and Nancy Collins have crashed the (quite
overstated) "boys club only" image of Splatterpunk,
so this is really interesting more for historical perspective than
for any particular relevance to horror as it exits today.
- And here, alas, is my memorial for George
Alec Effinger, who died April 27, 2002, at the very untimely age
of 55. A friend and a fine writer with a crummy life. He will be
missed.
Book Reviews
Not a whole lot up yet, but here are a few:
