College literary magazine with poetry and fiction. Contains Edward Gorman's "Roads" on page 124. Since at least one online Gorman bibliography lists a story by him in a latter issue of Coe Review, I think it safe to say that this is the horror/mystery writer Ed Gorman (Prisoners, etc.). While I can't say for sure that this is his earliest published story, I can say that it's earlier than any other story listed in any of the bibliographies I know about. There is also a poem, "Suus" by Bruce Springsteen. I have no way of knowing whether it's _the_ Bruce Springsteen; in fact, I tend to doubt it, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility; I have another small press magazine that has a contribution from Peter Gabriel. Other contributors include Michael Finley, Alice Friman, Yvonne Brooks, Alan Britt, Albert Drake, and Frank Urbanski. $10.

This is a typesetting proof (unbound photocopied pages) of the Bantam paperback edition. However, this copy was used to transcribe the novel into electronic format for the Ziesing hardback edition by myself, Dwight Brown, and Glen Cox. The first page is wrinkled and has a faint beverage ring stain, otherwise fine, with corrections by both myself (handwritten in blue ink) and whoever set the Bantam edition (present when I received the manuscript). The first Hap and Leonard novel. Not much to look at, but a unique item for the Lansdale completist! In original FedEx envelope. $200.

Howard's Centennial, and this book was published as a celebration of his work, some featuring Howard's characters (with the permission of his estate), some featuring Howard himself as a character, and others Howard pastiches or tributes. I have a story in here, "The Toughest Jew in the West," which is one of the weirdest in the collection. This copy has been signed by 11 of the 22 contributors: Joe R. Better looking overall than this list of flaws would lead you to believe, and the spine is bright and unbroken. Not perfect, but still a collectable copy of Stephenson's first novel. $95.

In fact, of all the fantasy published in 2000, I would rank this better than everything else save China Mieveille's Perdido Street Station (and there are some interesting parallels to their work) and Tim Powers' Declare.
