Kathie del Hierro and dolphin, Jenny - Summer 2003

Artist Statement:
“As an artist, my calling is to channel the beauty of life that surrounds us at a constant level. Each time I look at the blank, stark-white canvas, it’s like coming to the altar – there is a quiet, timelessness to this work.  When I’m creating, my wish is to bring peacefulness to the souls of others.  Soft, swirling landscapes with the oil paint moving though reflective naturalism. Soothing colors taken from a serene life, and transformed into a scene of part imagination, part reality. The tranquility each soul deeply longs for, rests in the silent places God has provided for each of us - mine happens to be the beauty of life depicted through art.”

Artist Biography:
Kathie del Hierro
b. 1959 Wimpole Park, England

Kathie del Hierro has always known the visual arts to be her destiny. "My mind is filled with the desire to create beauty that uplifts the human spirit. At the deepest level, there has never been any other mode of thought for me."  The artwork of Kathie del Hierro directly conveys her strong spiritual belief system. Her paintings put the viewer at rest. Taking a person into an environment of color and light that transcends the everyday. The artist successfully depicts harmony of the outdoors, people, and animals with the highest respect and regard for life. It is in nature, from the backyard, to the sublime, that del Hierro finds an endless source of inspiration for her work.

The sense of movement, color, and impasto application of paint applied by del Hierro is mesmerizing. Her work is fresh and loose, yet representational. Color is applied thickly, with the range dependent upon atmospheric conditions, and the artists feeling for each individual scene, “The use of color, both optical and arbitrary, are of extreme importance when working through my palette. It is through color that I create the mood of my work.” On close observation, brilliant color jumps out at the viewer, these same colors, from a distance blend into unity, creating recognizable imagery. This is truly an artist whose evolution should be watched by art lovers, world-wide, very closely!
