Picture of SherryWhen I first met Sherry, on the 24th of May, 1996, while I was in Texas for the Kerrville Folk Festival, the first things I noticed about her were her pretty brown eyes and her warm, outgoing personality. As we hung out together during the festival, I soon became aware that we were very much enjoying each other's company -- our personalities meshed beautifully. I knew by the end of my visit that we'd always be close.

While I was still living in New England, Sherry and I corresponded and visited each other until I finally decided to move to Austin in October 1997 (best move I ever made). We've been inseparable ever since. The big moment came on March 15, 1999 -- after we'd come back from a visit to Houston and Galveston, I gathered all the courage I could muster and proposed. Oh, in case you were wondering, she said yes. :-)

We decided we didn't want to wait, so we planned a simple ceremony with just four guests, close friends of Sherry's, and the Rev. Dick Wilson at the Driskill Hotel in the heart of downtown Austin. The date was May 21, 1999. We had our friend David Grant photograph the event (the photo seen here is one of his). After a memorable dinner at the Four Seasons, Sherry and I spent the night in the Driskill's bridal suite, by far the fanciest hotel room I've ever been in. The balcony overlooking the Sixth Street entertainment district was very cool. The next day we drove to the Horseshoe Bay resort in Marble Falls and had a very nice time in an impressive waterfront condo. All in all, it was the most incredible weekend ever.

Our official honeymoon came a week later when we flew to Huatulco, Mexico, a resort area on the Pacific. We stayed for seven glorious days at the Club Med there and had a great time swimming, sailing, and snorkeling. The facility was lots of fun and the food was superb. If you ever really need to get away from everything, we'd recommend this place.

Sherry and I are very happy. I've never gotten along with anyone as well as I do with her. Our priorities in life, our tastes in everything from food to music to home furnishings, and our senses of humor are so much alike it's almost scary. Sherry is the most caring, sensitive, thoughtful person I know. She's a natural with people. Her quick wit always makes me laugh. I guess if you get lucky enough to find someone like this, it's time to settle down. We foresee a long and happy life together.
