Background Information
Sometimes a fawn is found beside a road, lying near a doe that has been injured or killed by a car. This fawn needs help, and so may the doe. However, the usual scenario has a fawn crossing the road in the early morning or at night. A car appears and the fawn uses its best defense - it drops on the spot in a freeze response. It may appear the fawn collapsed from weakness.

Fawns found walking alone in the road right-of-way, or trying to cross a fence by the road, are also good candidates for return. Help the fawn by placing it over the fence on the side it appeared to be going.
