Background Information
Since young fawns are not strong enough to outrun predators, they are born with other survival gear. Spots mimic dappled sun for visual camouflage. Fawns have little odor for predators to smell. In addition, very young fawns are programmed with a "freeze" response to danger. Fawns will plaster themselves on the ground and even "play possum" by going limp when handled.
