Both my cages have a water and two food bowls which are always changed daily. One food bowl has a type of bird food called McBrides Macaw which contains: seeds, nuts, dried fruits, pellets, etc. The other food bowl always has some type of fresh fruit or vegetables. I might find cut up pieces of apple, grapes, cherries, hot peppers, string beans, carrots, and my favorite corn on the cob. Sometimes dad cooks the veggies in the microwave before giving them to me, and sometimes I get them raw! Below is photo of a typical days food put in my cage every morning for me to munch on

I like my bird food but I really like eating with my people buddies. Pretty much anything good for a person is good for me except I cannot be fed avocadoes, chocolate, or caffeine. Mom and dad take real good care to wash all fruits and vegetables very carefully and use organic produce whenever possible to reduce the risk from pesticides. They never cook with non-stick pots and pans as they can make me sick. Mom and dad should not feed me much fatty foods but we all love hamburgers, French fries, pizza, steak, salads, peas, carrots, cereal, spaghetti, beans, rice, and even tacos! Like everyone else I love turkey and all the fixing on special occasions like Thanksgiving. Too bad I have to sit at the kiddie table!

There are some really good pellet foods which are supposed to contain everything I need. When mom and dad first got me the lady at the pet store recommended the McBrides seeds and nuts. In hindsight I might have been better with the pellet food but now I will hardly touch it. On the other hand I eat seeds and nuts in the wild and they feel it is their duty to make me as happy as I can be.
When mom and dad bought me they looked for months to find just the right bird. They had never owned a bird before but the lady who sold me to mom and dad said I was almost weaned and quickly showed them how to feed me with a syringe. Mom and dad did not know I was not eating any solid food. They also did not realize how difficult it is to feed a bird with a syringe. The baby bird food comes in a powder which is mixed with warm water. The temperature of the food has to be carefully measured with a thermometer. Too cold I would eat it, too hot and I burn myself. Next problem was getting the food down my throat without choking me, but at the same time making sure I got enough. They did this at least 3 to 4 times a day to start. If it had not been for the nice lady at a local pet store I might have died. To make a long story short, NEVER purchase an unweaned bird unless you are an expert.
