O ne thing I've noticed in all my years... People seem to have an unending supply of crazy opinions and wild theories... I'm no different. I spent three years (with my family) in Scotland on an expatriate assignment... figuring out the language was a critical survival skill. It's English... but it isn't (if you know what I mean). I've created a sort of Scots English to American English dictionary. Highly recommended for Americans planning an extended stay in Scotland - it could save you from social suicide... It has been known to give those of a Scottish persuasion a laugh or two, as well.
Don't take this seriously. Here's a top 10 list, in the spirit of David Letterman, that's meant to be merely entertaining - not a serious portrayal of anything, really. It proposes to highlight disappointing stereotypes from the Scottish culture in a non serious way. Did I mention that, under no circumstances, should you take this list seriously?!
Here are some things I missed from the American culture, plus some things I miss from Scotland (yes, really) , now that I'm back to the U.S..
Also, in my journeys around Scotland I've made the following (what I think is) amusing observation about the names of some Scottish towns...
I have a small collection of ASCII art (pictures done with ASCII characters). I thought I'd share a few samples. The first one is a famous knot designed by MC Escher (my favorite artist). Next we have a page of tricky ones. It's like those autosterograms except it uses the ASCII character set to render 3D images. Viewing is done with the same technique, i.e. like you would look at a "Magic Eye" or "Hollusion". Finally, with a little HTML, the ASCII art form has attained a whole new level. Check out these images (some may require you to stretch your window and you may have to back away from the screen to really appreciate the detail). What happens when you take the output of a color fractal generator and feed that into program that generates an ASCII translation in colorized HTML? You get a Color Fractal that looks like this. Sometimes Austin Texas is know as Silicon Hills. I'm a big fan of the Apple Macintosh and OS X so, naturally...
W hat is phone candy? It's wallpaper and mp3 ringtones that I have created for use with my RAZR phone.
