In March 2001, Samuel Ramirez finally was convicted of misdemeanor official oppression. A jury sentenced him to three months in jail, rather than the potential 40 year sentence awaiting him if the DA charged him with sexual assault the way he would have you or I. Even so, police union leaders claimed evidence that convicted him should have been excluded under civil service law. The only good thing to come out of this sorry affair is that Samuel Ramirez can never be licensed as a peace officer in Texas again.
