Aggregate Complaint Statistics

Listed below are tables detailing statistics on the outcomes of complaints to the Austin Police Department for 1997, 1996 and 1995. Statistics aren't available in comparable detail for previous years.

The codes for different types of responses to complaints are as follows:

The most serious of the five types of inquiries is the Formal Investigation by the Internal Affairs Department. Investigations by supervisors are the next most serious type of inquiry. Administrative Inquiries and Information Reports indicate less intensive investigations into complaints which seldom result in formal disciplinary actions. The Collision Review Board does what its name implies: investigates auto accidents involving APD officers and employees. Blanks in the Outcome column are identical to the spreadsheets received in July 1998 in response to an Open Records request.
