Texas Transportation Company

Nature of Firm:
Texas Transportation operates an electric switching line with 1.1 miles of track connecting with UP at San Antonio, TX. This is one of the last remaining freight-hauling electric railroads in the United States. The train works six days a week and handles an average of 25 to 30 cars a day with heavier volume of 45 to 50 cars in summer. The railroad's sole purpose today is to switch cars in the Pearl Brewery and interchange them with the Union Pacific over former Southern Pacific trackage.

Traffic is food products - under 1,000 cars a year.

The railroad was originally built in 1889 for mule cars. It was incorporated September 24, 1897. It didn't become a common carrier until October, 1932.

The company is owned by Pearl Brewing Company.
