Top Two Potent Shots of All Time

1. Tim's right wall (quick release) under --To my knowledge Tim was the first person to master the quick release bank. By quick release I'm referring to a shot that requires little or NO backward motion of the mallet to implement the shot. because of this there is no telegraphing of the shot. Tim also can do this shot off of a moving puck. When he does this-

1. The defender can't time the moment of attack

2. The defender doesn't know exactly where the puck will be at the moment of attack

3. The defender doesn't know where the puck is going to score (this is because Tim has more than one shot off this release.)

In Air-hockey if you take 2 of these 3 from the defender you should score. Since Tim's shot takes all 3 away it ranks as the top shot of all time!

2. Phil's "complete follow through" cut straight shot--I'm not sure who invented this shot but Phil certainly added a major innovation and improvement. He was able to approach the puck in the right quadrant with his mallet constantly moving in a left to right direction. If this isn't bad enough, on his follow through his hand continues until his mallet hits the right rail. Because of the extended wind up in the delivery--

1.The defender can't time the moment of attack Because of this and because the puck is moving:

2. The defender doesn't know where the puck will be at the moment of attack Because of the angle of approach to the puck and the complete follow through:

3. The defender doesn't know where the puck is going to score. (Obviously some variety is needed to make this so.)

Years ago Phil used to do this off a fast serve and it was virtually unstoppable without giving up just about everything else. For these reasons this shot ranks as the second best shot of all time.

Players:

You could do no better to master both of these shots. Since their primary scoring zones are on opposite sides of the goal you would have a world class combo indeed!!
