This is the real thing -- Agarita. This prickly leafed shrub grows here
natively and prolifically. It survives through the harshest conditions
and puts out beautiful yellow flowers in the early early spring followed
by tiny red berries. It looks especially Texas rugged growing next to
shaggy barked mountain cedars and spine covered prickly pear.
