We were "officially unofficially" engaged on November 25, 2000. It was at this time that Louis asked my dad, Mel, for my hand in marriage!!!! We considered this unofficial because Louis had not asked me at this point. The official engagement happened on January 26, 2001. It was perfect. We had planned to go to Atlanta under the pretense of celebrating my and Louis’s mom Karen’s birthdays. Well, that is what I thought!!! Everyone else knew that Louis was going to propose. He had me completely fooled!!! I called Louis and asked him to meet me and my mom, Barbara, at Fragile so we could register. (Okay, we were registering before we were engaged, but we were "officially, unofficial"). We had been registering for about 30 minutes when Louis said to me, "Honey, do you know what we really need to register for?" I was thinking he was going to say, "a big screen TV, a Playstation 2,etc". So, I turned and said, "What should we register for?" Louis said "This" and was holding an opened red velvet box with the diamond engagement ring in it. At first I just stared at the ring and said nothing. It didn’t register in my head what it was. I thought Louis had pulled something off the shelf. A few seconds later (although Louis said it felt like forever!) I started crying and yelling "Oh, my g-d", over and over again. Even though I knew the proposal was going to happen that weekend, Louis had also completely surprised my mom as well. She asked me if I had said yes. I realized then that in all the excitement, Louis had forgotten to ask me. He then asked me if I would marry him and of course I said "Yes!!". |
